Celebrating International Youth Day 2024 at JMC

Theme: “Today’s Children, Tomorrow’s Youth”

On August 12, 2024, the Jaishankar Memorial Centre (JMC) was filled with the vibrant energy of young minds as it hosted the celebration of International Youth Day.  The event began with a warm welcome to all attendees, setting the tone for a day of thoughtful discussions and reflections. The theme, “Today’s Children, Tomorrow’s Youth,” was highlighted, emphasising the important role that today’s children will play in crafting a better world for the future.

Insights from Experts in the Development Sector

One of the event’s key moments was the keynote speech by Ms. Alka Narang, a veteran in social development with over 30 years of experience. She shared her journey and the challenges she faced while working with underprivileged young girls in Maharashtra, where she played a crucial role in supporting their cognitive and mental development. Ms. Narang’s efforts helped these girls progress in life, and her stories offered the audience deep insights into the social and emotional growth of children from marginalised communities.

“The future of any society lies in the hands of its youth. It’s our responsibility to ensure they are equipped, not just with education, but with values and resilience to overcome life’s hurdles,” Ms. Narang shared.
Additionally, special guest Rudrath Avinashi from Kalpavriksh inspired the audience. He emphasised, “While age doesn’t define when you set your goals, choosing the right moment to do so empowers you to overcome challenges and achieve success more effectively.”

Alumni Reflections: From Classroom to Career

Adding a personal touch, alumna Sneha spoke about her journey from being a student at JMC to establishing a successful career. She highlighted how the values instilled during her time at JMC have guided her through the challenges of adulthood and professional life.

“JMC didn’t just educate me; it shaped my worldview and prepared me for the complexities of life,” Sneha reflected. “It’s important to remember that the seeds we plant in our youth bear the fruits of tomorrow.”
Engaging Activities and Creative Expressions

The event featured vibrant activities where students and teachers discussed preparing children for their future roles. An interactive session gave youth a voice to share their aspirations, fostering a collaborative spirit that embodied the event’s theme.

A Glimpse into the Future

A memorable part of the day was the “future vision” activity, facilitated by Shaima Ahmed and Bazilah Ayoob from the New Concept team. “Where do you see yourself in the future?” was the question posed to the youth, sparking a wave of creativity and optimism. From future doctors and engineers to artists and social workers, the children’s dreams were as diverse as they were inspiring.

Signing Off: A Day of Inspiration and Gratitude

The event concluded with heartfelt thanks to all participants, speakers, and organisers. The celebration of International Youth Day at JMC was not just an event but a reminder of the incredible potential within every young individual.
