A flower truly bloomed and helping many more young minds to bloom!
For some of us who have been associated with JMC for so very long feel a tremendous sense of satisfaction whenever we see the smiling, young but strong face of Manju Sarma. About 15 years ago, Manju used to sit on our laps when we had meetings on women’s rights in her slum colony, and today she is the library teacher at JMC!
Just 5’tall, Manju helps the 40 odd children who come in batches to learn to read, write, and do simple Math, work on crafts and more than anything else builds their confidence.
These children come from nearby Madanpur Khadar, many of them out of school or have never been to school. The library books are borrowed on a regular basis from the Association of Writers and Illustrators for Children (AWIC).
Manju’s diligent work bore fruit when at the silver jubilee programme of AWIC, children from our library won the second prize in the role play event; two students Rakhi and Kajal won the reader award of 2008 and a cash prize of Rs.151 for writing the best article for JMC library. It is a great achievement for the children, their families and for the JMC Library programme. These children and the librarian Manju deserve our appreciation!
